2023 Award of Merit
Every year, the Urban and Community Forestry Society (UCFS) recognizes the outstanding work that is happening in urban forestry. Cheyenne's very own City Forester, Mark Ellison, was awarded the 2023 Award of Merit for his outstanding work that advances UCFS goals and the practice of urban forestry. Mark Ellison started the non-profit, Rooted in Cheyenne, back in 2017. Rooted in Cheyenne aims to encourage environmental stewardship in the community and to build support and appreciation for urban trees. With help from different organizations and board members, Rooted in Cheyenne is able to educate the community about proper tree care and conduct large-scale volunteer tree planting projects. Way to go Mark!

  3. Have a program with a Budget of at least $2/capita.
  4. Celebrate Arbor Day each year.
